In
1977 Cherry Valley Racing Team was formed
with the main ethos of providing a platform
for bringing together the elite riders of
the Lincolnshire region to race together as
one team and provide a stepping stone from
club level cycling to an organised racing
team environment.
Nearly
30 years later, the team ethos hasn’t
changed and over the winter new riders have
joined the team including Andy Hayton from
Winteringham and Jon Surtees from Tattershall.
The
team achieved 24 victories in 2005 and 18
second places, with team captain Ian Dalton
winning the National Circuit Time Trial Championships
(age 35-39). Most 2005 Lincolnshire time trials
were dominated by Cherry Valley with wins
from Ian Dalton, Andy Moore and Andy Lintin
and supported by Sam and Aaron Tuplin while
road racing was once again on the Cherry Valley
agenda with victories from Gareth Williams
supported by Richard Robinson.
Most
notable riders to be groomed by Cherry Valley
RT were formidable 1980’s road riders
Kevin Davis and Simon Goodge, who both rode
at International level representing Great
Britain. Roy Harrison and Mick Daley had successful
road racing careers at Cherry Valley also
in the 80's and early 90' while more recently
current National British Cycling under-23
coach Rod Ellingworth rode for Cherry Valley
RT before turning professional in the mid
1990’s.
