Great ride by Cherry Valley trio

National Team Time Trial - 03/07/2005 - Course - Boston

A great ride by Cherry Valley trio Andy Moore, Ian Dalton and Andy Lintin saw the three riders take 11th place in the National Championship Team Time Trial held near Boston on Sunday 3rd July.

The Cherry Valley team covered the 50km course in a time of 1.8.21 despite most of the work being done by Andy Moore and Ian with Andy Lintin still struggling with his form and being unable to contribute to the pace setting. The course was mainly flat starting near Frithville before heading to Sibsey and up the A16 to encounter the only small climb of note on the circuit at East Keal. From East Keal the race moved onto to the A155 through Revesby and onto Tumby roundabout then heading south through New York and turning left once again to complete the loop through Gipsey Bridge. With the wind behind the riders Ian and Andy Moore set the tempo for the day as they headed Northwards with the speed rarely dropping below 30 mph. A short break in the momentum ensued for Andy and Ian at the top of Keal Hill while Andy Lintin drew his breath for the next leg of this epic team time trial.

Now fully warmed up, Andy and Ian were putting in some long hard turns to keep the speed high before they turned into the headwind and down the featureless straights through New York. As the ever increasing breeze from the South took its toll on the riders, Ian and Andy Moore pressed on harder to keep the speed as near to 28mph as possible. As the trio turned left at Langrick to Gipsey bridge is was an all out effort for the line as the Cherry Valley team were caught and passed by De Rosa RT who took the bronze medal.

With the finish line in sight, and not a moment too soon for the suffering Andy Lintin, a final huge effort saw the Cherry Valley trio cross the line in 1.8.21 to finish 11th at an average speed of 27.2mph. The Cherry Valley team could only now wonder what they might have done if Andy Lintin had the same form he had shown just a few weeks prior to the race.
