Great win for Andy Lintin

Scunthorpe RC Circuit - 8/5/2005 - Course CS/11

Andy Lintin (Cherry Valley RT) scored his best win of the year in the Scunthorpe RC circuit time trial held on Sunday 8th May. Andy covered the 18 mile course from Scotter along the Trent bank to Morton before turning to Laughton Village then the finally through Laughton Woods in a time of 43.28.

Andy held off strong challenges on a tricky and technical course from his own team mates Ian Dalton and Gareth Williams and Mark Bladgen (Sheffield Phoenix) to claim his finest win of the season so far.

The day didn’t start according to plan as Richard Robinson (Cherry Valley RT) called in with a recurrence of his sore throat after his efforts of the previous day. First of the Cherry Valley riders to finish was Aaron Tuplin who covered the circuit in a time of 46.49 which was a great ride to finish in a final position of 7th. Aaron held the lead for a short time until Andy Lintins time was posted.

Setting off near the front of the race, Andy was the fastest rider to finish after starting number 15 and had to wait to see the other results posted at the HQ before realising he had won the event. With Mark Blagden starting 1 minute behind the Cherry Valley man, Andy just knuckled down to the task in hand and not worrying about Bladgen just a minute behind him. The race started on a short 3 mile section directly into a headwind to the village of Susworth before turning left and following the river Trent on some narrow and technical roads through several villages before the wind gave the riders any help to the village of Laughton.

Andy eventually crossed the finish line in a time of 43.28 and only had to wait another minute before Blagden crossed the line in a time of 43.57. With team mates Ian Dalton and Gareth Williams (Cherry Valley RT) the only riders capable of toppling Andy from the number 1 position, Andy had an anxious wait to see Gareth next home in a time of 44.09 so he was at least guaranteed of a second spot.

Shortly after Gareth finished, saw the arrival of Ian Dalton making a huge effort for the finish line but still falling short of Andys time to finish with 43.53 taking Ian to two second places on two days but victory still going to his team mate Andy Lintin.
