Cherry Valley duo regain first Lincolnshire Title of the year
LRRA 25 mile 2up Team Time Trial - 20/03/2005 - Course C25/27
Underlying their recent good form at the opening of the 2005
racing season, Andy Moore and Ian Dalton (Cherry Valley RT)
won the Lincolnshire 2up Team Time Trial championship on Sunday
March 20th. The Cherry Valley duo powered their way around
a 25 mile circuit based in the Boston area in a superb time
of 55.40. After previously warm temperatures throughout the
week preceding the championships, it was surprise for the
riders to be faced with a strong cool wind blowing in off
the east coast in a south westerly direction on this dull
and overcast day. However, this did not deter Ian and Andy
from putting in a performance that proved too strong for any
of the other teams on the day as they averaged 26.9 mph over
the 25 mile circuit to finish in first place.
The day was made even sweeter for the Cherry Valley Team
as team mates Andy Lintin and Gareth Williams made it a one
two in the Lincolnshire Championships covering the 25 mile
circuit in a time of 58.14, a clear 37 seconds ahead of Alford
Wheelers pairing Chris O’Rourke and Craig Lamb.
The Cherry Valley domination of the Lincolnshire 2up Championships
was consolidated with a 5th position for the Cherry Valley
pairing of Aaron Tuplin and Richard Robinson. With Richard
riding his first race in Cherry Valley colours, got his season
off to a good start today following a series of painful back
injuries that saw his pre-season training start only 5 weeks
ago – Impressive stuff. Aaron also showed his continuing
good start to the season was no fluke by performing around
60% of the work at the front of their race.
Andy Moore commented after the race ‘I was relieved
that my win last week was not a one off fluke as I still felt
quite strong again today’. Andy Moore’s partner
Ian Dalton was also pleased to find some consistency with
his ride claiming ‘I really only settled into a good
rhythm over the last 9 miles of the course from Revesby to
the finish’.
Andy Lintin and Gareth Williams (Cherry Valley RT), found
it more difficult to keep an even pace until the final 9 miles
of headwind where the work and pace was shared more evenly
between the two team mates. ‘I found it hard to hold
Gareth’s wheel when he was at the front and I just couldn’t
recover for long periods of time, but when we hit the head
wind from Revesby, I used a lower gear and that helped me
settle into a more reasonable cadence’ Andy said. ‘Andy
and myself decided not too use disc wheels today’, said
Gareth, ‘which I think made it harder for us than other
teams who used discs but we still managed to get second place
so with Ian and Andy winning and Aaron and Richard getting
5th, we had another really good day out for the team’.
