Richards Race Diary from the 2 day
'I think 'good training' sums up my weekend.
Did OK in the hilly prolog (11th).
1st road stage in the afternoon was described by the
majority as 'the hardest 3rd cat road circuit I've ever
ridden'
7 3/4 laps of a beast of a circuit. I just did not
have the stamina after my cold and got dropped with
2 to go.
That was the lap that what was left of the bunch split
and, considering when I blow, I really blow I was happy
to come in just 3 minutes down on Kyles group (Kyle
Byers Sunthorpe Poly), and content to get round I guess
(22nd overall by this point)
Sunday morning I awoke to stiff legs, but once in the
race, I felt better as the race progressed, but my heart
rate was 20 beats below normal, and I knew I had no
'top end'
On the last lap a tractor got in the way of the bunch
down the notorious 'pot bank' and as the bunch went
round a car came the other way, and a number of us got
stuck behind. With no help from any following cars,
I worked my a$$ off to get back on, but succeeded, and
in the up hill finish I managed to find some strength
to be 'up their' in the sprint, but with 3 away I reckon
I was lucky if I got 10th,but might have been just outside.
Problem with this race was that some riders who had
been lapped (some twice) were allowed to start, and
were hence fresher than most'.
