Another win for Cherry Valley

LRRA 10 - 01/10/2005 - C10/28

Ian Dalton recorded a clean sweep in the Lincolnshire short distance titles when he finished off his time trialling season with a fine win in the LRRA 10 held on Saturday 1st October.

The re-arranged 10 mile county championships was held on the Ingham course just North of Lincoln in cool and very windy conditions which battered the riders in both directions to and from the turn at Harpswell as the wind blew from a Westerly direction on the exposed Cliff Road. As Ian won the championship and the open event, he also led teammates Richard Robinson and Gareth Williams to the fastest team award.

On the day both Sam Tuplin and Andy Moore were both unable to ride with Sam not available to return from University for the day to race whilst Andy had prior engagements.

First of the Cherry Valley riders to start was Richard who braved the windy conditions and despite not feeling at his best still returned a time of 23.21 which was good enough for a final placing of 4th and only just missing out on 3rd place by 3 seconds.

With one of the pre-race favourites missing his start, Ian didn’t have to worry about John Greed (VC Lincoln) who had beaten Ian earlier in the season at the Alford 10. Even though John would record a time only 26 seconds slower than Ian on the day his time would not stand because of his late start. Despite still suffering the after effects of a cold from the previous few weeks, Ian was the next Cherry Valley rider to tackle the windy conditions and he rode home in a comfortable time of 21.40 for the win ahead of team mate Gareth.

Almost the last rider on the road was Gareth who started 5 minutes behind Ian. Struggling to get motivated for the event Gareth eventually crossed the finish line with a time of 22.49 for second place in the LRRA event and 3rd in the open race.
