Despite wet conditions and the mini
heatwave not materialising as forecast, Ian scored a
second place in the Team Swift Hilly TT which was a
district Rudy Project TT series event counting towards
the overall Time Trial series result. With Ian recording
a time of 1.22.03, Aaron crossed the finish line exhausted
with a time of 1.30.00 to finish inside the top 10.
Despite the damp road conditions and intermittent showers,
there was little wind and it was reasonably mild considering
the conditions. Starting in the town of Pocklington
in East Yorkshire, the race started by climbing a long
hill after only a mile which the riders faced a further
2 times over 2 more laps. The roads on the rest of the
course were rough and narrow in places but were consistently
undulating some taking in steeper climbs requiring the
smaller gears and some confident bike handling skills.
With Ian opting to ride his road bike and both Aaron
and Ian deciding not to use their disc wheels, they
were already at a disadvantage to race winner James
Sampson, National Junior 25 TT champion riding his full
TT bike with disc wheel. Riding hard, Ian couldn’t
overturn a 30 second deficit on Sampson finishing second
with a time of 1.22.03. Meanwhile, Aaron suffered over
the closing miles of the race. The culmination of the
race distance and the climbs around the circuit finally
took the toll on Aaron who started to struggle over
the closing miles and finished down on his expected
time.
