Close win for Ian and Cherry Valley take team award

LRRA 30 - 10/09/2006 - Boston, Lincs

A calm and foggy start to the day greeted the riders for the Lincolnshire Championship 30 mile time trial promoted by Boston Wheelers. It looked like the start would have to be delayed but shortly before the first was due to start a slight breeze and a strong sun lifted the mist and fog.

The course started on the Frithville to Sibsey road. At Sibsey the riders took a left turn onto the A16 which then took them to the foot of Keal Hill. At Keal hill the riders turned left again onto the A155 to Tumby roundabout, left again onto the B1192 through New York towards Langrick, where left again through Gipsey Bridge to finish back at Frithville.

First of the Cherry Valley RT riders to start was Andy Moore who was back racing again just after returning from holiday. Andy set the pace for everyone to beat with a time 1.09.41.

Light winds made for an interesting race where expectations of fast race were high on this flat course. The riders were helped slightly by a southerly breeze on the A16 leg but the section of the course through New York was a hard cross head wind and the poor road surface made that section even harder.

With Ian starting at number 50 and LRRA 25 champion Jim Boyle (Boston Wheelers) starting 5 minutes after Ian, it was going to be a tight race between the two out on the road. A time check at Revesby showed Ian and Jim level but just a few miles later just past New York Ian had started to open up a decisive gap of 20 seconds. By the finish Ian had stretched his lead to 34 seconds over Jim to take the LRRA 30 win with Jim a close second and Andy moore 3rd.

Aaron became the all important third Cherry Valley rider. Andy Lintin didnt start due to a trapped nerve in his leg and Sam couldnt make it either suffering from a cold. This was Aarons first race back after having a few weeks off himself due to a heavy cold and he recorded a time of 1.13.22 to ensure Cherry Valley took the team award.
