Sam and Aaron show the way
Skegness Wheelers 10 TT - 13/06/2006 - C10/9, Gunby, Lincolnshire
Cherry Valley riders dominated the top 10 placings and won
the fastest team award in the Skegness Wheelers mid week 10
on Tuesday 13th June. The event saw Sam continue his good
run of form following ‘some’ training over the
previous weeks and Aaron continue his drive back to full fitness,
whilst Andy Lintin put in a good ride to take 4th place. The
Skegness event also saw Gareth make his return to time trialling
for the first time this season while Ian was riding below
his best but still managed to take 2nd spot.
The evening was almost perfect for the riders as there was
hardly a breath of wind over the course from Gunby to Ulceby
Cross Roundabout but the rain started to fall steadily as
the event progressed.
First of the Cherry Valley riders to start was Andy Lintin
who flew around the course catching all the starters in front
of him to cross the finish line in a time of 22.09 to take
an early lead.
Gareth was the next Cherry Valley rider on the road and despite
a quick start he struggled with being so low in the time trialling
position. Deciding not to use an aero crash hat and like Ian
leaving the disk wheel in the car, Gareth crossed the line
in a time of 22.38.
Sam was starting only a minute in front of Ian toward the
back of the field and Sam soon found his pace reaching the
turn in the same time as Gareth and keeping Ian at bay close
behind. Once at the turn, Sam got into full speed mode and
set off with some vigour back to the finish. Sam reached the
finish line without begin caught by Ian so he knew he was
on a good ride which resulted in a time of 22.18, only 9 seconds
slower than team mate Andy. Starting without his disk wheel,
it was obvious Ian was not taking this event too seriously
as he had been training hard for the National 50 TT on the
following Sunday. Ian still crossed the line in a time of
21.38 which was good enough for second place behind Julian
Ramsbottom (Scunthorpe Poly CC).
Last Cherry Valley rider to finish was Aaron. Aaron was in
his usual relaxed mood as he tackled the 10 mile course only
a short distance from his home. Making it look effortless,
Aaron took the chequered flag with a time of 22.34. Although
not happy at being beaten by his older brother Sam, Aarons
times and results are showing signs of consistency, which
after the illness that kept him off his bike for most of last
year is sign of a good summer to come.
With his eye on the his favourite National TT at the weekend,
Ian wasn’t bothered with his performance whilst Gareth
also couldn’t get motivated for the event and found
it hard to press on over the faster return leg to the finish
loosing 30 seconds in the process. However, both Sam and Aaron
were justifiably pleased with their performances as their
form shows good signs of being on the upward spiral now they
have more time to train.
