Andy meets the tarmac in the Not So Lumpy road race...

Andys Race Diary....

'On Sunday I made the trip across to the Forest of Bowland for the 'Not so Lumpy' Road race. The race was reincarnated 'not so' because one hill had been omitted from the circuit - which in previous events had forced riders to dismount and walk.

Having made a tentative 'come-back' from injury last weekend I was focused on doing a good ride on a hilly circuit which would suit my riding style, and where I have had top three finishes in the past.

When the neutralised zone finished, an attack was made by Nick Shaugnessy of Wills Wheels. I immediately jumped across and we worked as a pair for a couple of miles until three or four others bridged the gap. The bunch
however reeled us in on one of the longer climbs encountered on the ride out to the first of two different circuits to be used.

With the bunch altogether I was sat comfortably towards the front of the group when all of a sudden there must have been a touch of whees and I found myself spread across the middle of the road with seventy riders approaching at 30+mph. Most riders luckily managed to negotiate around myself and another couple who were grounded, though several did ride into or over me causing one or two bruises - and an interesting wheel mark on my neck!

I tried to continue though with my rear derailleur hanger snapped off I was going no where and was forced to retire.
