Richard takes sprinting lessons
from Andy Hayton
Seacroft Road Race - 27/08/2006 - Wistow, York
Richard gets closer to moving up a category at the Seacroft
road race.
Richards race diary.....
'After a recent run of results in previous races, I was keen
to get a result at the Seacroft Wheelers Road Race run over
7 laps of a flat circuit. Historically, it has ended in a
bunch sprint, but with my new found sprinting form, I was
quite up for that.
From the gun, Dave Allen (Scunthorpe Poly CC) took a flyer
on his own, and stayed away for a lap before being joined
by another rider. I followed a Hull Thursday rider up to the
two, and we worked together for a short time,
but the bunch never let up, and we were caught coming up to
the line after 2 laps.
Carl Saint (Yorkshire RC) tried a move on lap three, but
was watched by all in the bunch, and as he worked on the front
for two laps, the race fell flat, and nothing much happened.
The bunch were all together for the prime lap after 4 laps.
A lone rider from York Cycleworks CC tried his luck on the
fifth lap, closely followed by another duo, including Dave
Allen again. The same lad from Hull Thursday attempted a move
again. I followed him and by the end of lap 5, we were a group
of five away with about 20 seconds lead. We worked well together,
but with the end of lap six being another prime lap, the bunch
never let up, and we dangled in front of them until the end
of the lap, where we were swallowed back up. After being away
however, I wasn't going the let the prime go, and managed
to outsprint the fast approaching bunch to take the spot prize.
While I was recovering on the final lap, I missed the winning
move as Carl Saint, and Marcus Nainby (Scunthorpe Poly) slipped
off the front of the bunch. With 1km to go they had an unassailable
lead, and we were sprinting
it out for third. I managed 5th over the line to take 7th
place'.
