Fine result for Ian
Matlock Hilly 25 TT - 03/04/2007 - AH2
Ian Dalton (Cherry Valley RT), scored a fine second place
in the opening event of his 2007 season. A beautiful mild
and sunny day greeted the 40 riders taking part in the Matlock
Hilly 25 mile time trial based on a tough course around the
peak district.
The course covered both local unclassified roads and main
roads and made for a tricky race for all riders. Overnight
rain showers made some of the course water logged in places
but the weather on the day was almost perfect despite a moderate
westerly breeze.
Starting near halfway down the field, Ian started slowly
as he struggled to find his racing legs on the first climb
of the day up to Youlgrave and then heading toward Monyash
on the toughest part of the climb. Struggling with his breathing,
Ian ploughed on up the tough climb and recovered quickly on
the less hilly sections of the course and found a comfortable
race pace.
After a strong downhill finish, Ian crossed the line in a
time of 1.03.58, just 30 seconds behind number 1 seed Nigel
White. Event winner was Julian Ramsbottom (Scunthorpe Poly
CC) who produced a superb ride of 1.1.45 for the 25 mile hilly
course.
Ian was pleased with his result and how he performed but
also just glad to get the first 2007 event out of the way
whilst turning in a good performance.
