Delay costs Ian top 20 placing
National 10 TT Champsionships - 20/05/2007 - Sawtry, Cambridgeshire
The first major national championship event of 2007 was
the 10 mile championship promoted by St Ives CC on the N1/10
course based on the old A1 between Sawtry and Norman Cross.
There was a full day of racing with events for juniors, women
and men. The weather for the days racing was almost perfect,
warm and with a slight breeze
Cherry Valley had 3 riders entered in the 150 rider men’s
event, Ian Dalton, Sam and Aaron Tuplin, but unfortunately
Aaron was unable to start due to a knee injury.
The course started on the southern side of Sawtry and passed
through the village on the old A1 north bound, with the road
alterations it now meant that there were three roundabouts
to negotiate in quick succession at Sawtry, before the riders
had a straight forward ride to the turn and then had the three
roundabouts again before the finish. With every second counting
a delay at a roundabout of only a few seconds could drop a
rider several placing.
The riders were seeded from slowest to fastest and with Aaron
not starting it was Sam (Nr 52) who was the first Cherry Valley
rider to face the time keeper, after recently breaking his
tri bars Sam was sporting a new pair and could only manage
a disappointing time of 24.38 for 137th place
Cherry Valleys Ian Dalton (Nr 125) started over an hour later
than Sam and was hoping the he could continue his recent run
of good form. Ian recorded a time of 21.26 for =20th place
and after said it was the hardest race he’d ridden this
year, “I got held up by a car at the second roundabout
and had to almost stop, then at the third roundabout I had
to alter my line due to another car. These delays cost me
around 10 seconds but it’s one of those things”
If it wasn’t for these delays then Ian could have been
another 5 or 6 placing higher up
Winner of the event was Michael Hutchinson – Ingear
Quickvit RT with a course record time of 19.43
