National 50 TT Championships - 17/06/2007 - Tempsford, Bedfordshire

Ian Dalton was Cherry Valley RT’s only competor riding the National Championship 50mile time trial promoted by Icknield Road Club, the event was based at Tempsford in Bedfofdshire and used the new A421 road towards Bedford and the A1.

With a start time of 7.02am it was a very early start to the day for Ian having left home at 4.00am to travel down the the event. After setting a new personal best time of 50 miles the previous weekend Ian was hoping for another fast ride today as on paper the course looked as if it would produce quicker times.

The start was on the old A421 and came to the Black Cat roundabout on the A1 before heading on the new A421 towards Bedford turning at the roundabout junction with the A603 and back to the Black Cat roundabout, then north on the A1 to Buckden turning there and back south bound to South Biggleswade to turn and head north back to the Black Cat rounabout, left here and back onto the old A421 for the final mile to the finish

With Ian starting midway in the field of 150 riders he was soon catching and passing riders and he went through the 25 mile time check at 53mins 23sec the fastest so far but with most if the later starters quicker riders this wouldn’t last for too long, the second 25 miles was slower completed in 55mins 55 sec to give Ian a total time of 1hr 49mins 18sec, this was good enough for 29th place onerall

Winner was Michael Hutchinson – In Gear Quickvit RT who won his eighth consecative 50 miles championship title
