Team win for Cherry Valley

Scunthorpe 10 TT - 10/04/2007 - Kirton Lindsey

On a mild Saturday afternoon, Jon Surtees and Andy Moore opened up their 2007 season with great rides in the Scunthorpe Road Club 10, joining Ian Dalton in winning the team award for Cherry Valley RT.

Fastest Cherry Valley rider with a second place overall was Jon, who covered the 10 mile A15 course in a time of 21.32 to comfortably give him second place which was 37 seconds behind winner Julian Ramsbottom (Scunthorpe Poly). The A15 based course just south of Scunthorpe had a typically stiff breeze blowing across the course helping the riders on the outward stretch but made for a tougher ride back from the turn, which is the junction of the M180, to the finish.

Jon reached the turn in 10 mins 30 seconds and made his way back on the A15 toward the finish whilst Ian headed North toward the turn and as the riders crossed on the return leg, Ian was already some 20 seconds down on Jon. Exiting the A15 for the last half mile of the race, Jon sprinted over the finish line to record his time of 21.32 shortly to be followed by Ian with his time of 21.54.

Also making this first outing of the season, Andy Moore rode the Scunthorpe event finishing in a great 5th position with a time of 21.56. Andy rode brilliantly and finished only 2 seconds slower than team mate Ian. Stuck in the 'Cherry Valley Sandwich' was Jim Boyle (Boston Wheelers), who recorded a brilliant time of 21.50 showing himself as real strong competition to the Cherry Valley riders in local time trials.

1. Julian Ramsbottom (Scunthorpe Poly CC) 20.55
2. Jon Surtees (Cherry Valley RT) 21.32
3. Jim Boyle (Boston Wheelers) 21.50
